Physical Education

All students experience physical education on a weekly basis in core PE lessons at Outwood Academy City. In addition to this, there is a range of options within Physical Education that students can select in Year 9, giving students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding in Physical Education further. As part of our work in developing healthy, active lifestyles, there are a significant number of opportunities for students within Enrichment, giving students the opportunity to develop their physical, social and mental well being. We also endeavour to provide students with the opportunity to compete at the highest possible standards.

Physical Education – Key Stage 3

The Physical Education course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the GCSE PE & BTEC Sport course in Key Stage 4.

Physical Education, Sport & Health and Social Care – Key Stage 4

Pearson Edexcel Level 1/Level 2 GCSE (9 – 1) in Physical Education (1PE0)

GCSE Physical Education is assessed in the following way:
Controlled Assessment 40%
Examination 60%

Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Sport

BTEC Sport is assessed in the following way:
Controlled Assessment 75%
Examination 25%

Level 1/2 Cambridge National Certificate in Health and Social Care (120 glh)

Health and Social Care is assessed in the following way:
Controlled Assessment 75%
Examination 25%

Enrichment Opportunities In Physical Education
